Hooly Bible III

94min, 2024, China

Li Hongqi

Hooly Bible III, the third installment in the Hooly Bible documentary series.

Director's Statement:

Filming for Hooly Bible III began in 2010 and was completed in 2024, a journey spanning thirteen years. However, this work does not aspire to "in-depth observation" or "in-depth investigation." It merely presents, in the most superficial way, some unrealistic individuals and the unrealistic moments of some realistic people. It is entirely impossible to seek an "immersive viewing experience" from it. I have used a news event, widely discussed during a certain Spring Festival, as a thread to pretentiously edit together these characters who, in reality, could never meet—much like organizing a "G7 summit" aimed at emptiness. Their sole purpose is to reveal the gaps between them. Peering through these gaps, you will find yourself face to face with the dull, mute version of yourself standing behind you. In short, what I have attempted to present to the viewer is a pure work of disappointment. If it still manages to satisfy any of your interests or inclinations, then that must be a misunderstanding.
